About the Author
Elva Gannon has had 16 years of experience working with children and adults with developmental disabilities. She has worked as a provider in most of the industries surrounding Medicaid services for those with developmental disabilities. She continues to work in the field and this manual was created to serve the need of an affordable, approved, training manual to help those who work in the Personal Care Service/Home Health industry obtain their needed certificates to work with children in this field.
This training manual was offered in book format for 7 years and we determined that putting the same information on the Internet would allow for caregivers and agencies to easily access the material without waiting for books to be printed and shipped, tests graded and certificates shipped. Now all parts of the process can be completed directly from your computer.
As you read each section of the book the test will follow. You will be able to refer to what you have read while you are taking the test, which continues to make it an open book format. This is not a test of your ability to pass an exam, it is designed for you to learn even while taking the test. You cannot move on to the next section without first passing the current section with an 80% or better. This allows for employees to review the material and take the test until they pass it. You will have 30 days from registration to complete this training manual in its entirety. It will time out on the 31st day and payment will be required again to complete your test. After you have completed your test you will be able to still have access to the reading material portion through using your created username and password. This can be helpful as you work with new clients with new diagnosis and want to do a quick review on each diagnosis.
Once you receive your certificate ensure the company that you work for gets a copy of it so that they can put it in your employee file. DD training (like this manual) is a Medicaid requirement and if an agency is audited they will need to provide H&W a copy of this certificate. It is vitally important that you provide this to the agency. However, print a copy for your file as well because this is a certificate that will carry with you from agency to agency like your CPR/FA certificate does.
